Nov. 2001, Farmington Hills, Michigan, USA - CimCore is proud to introduce the GridLOK™ Large Volume Measuring System, a new, versatile, measuring and inspection system that enables users to inspect large parts without incurring the high cost of purchasing a large, stationary CMM or laser tracker. The system can measure large work pieces or multiple small parts while maintaining arm accuracy anywhere within its measuring area.

The patent pending GridLOK™ enhances extended reference measuring accuracies since all point locations are known by the system and there is no accumulative error when relocating within the measurement volume, as found in the leapfrog method. GridLOK™ volumetric accuracy equals the arm accuracy plus ± .101 mm (.004").
Multiple arms may be used at the same time within GridLOK™, allowing operators to independently measure a part or parts.

GridLOK™ components include a portable arm support stand with laptop holder, the GridLOK™ positioning software, and the grid system, which is installed by technicians in a concrete slab. The size of the measuring area is determined by the customers requirements.

A core component of the GridLOK™ system is the ROMER 3000i™ portable coordinate measuring machine. The 3000i™ series portable coordinate measuring machines are the world's most accurate 1.8-, 2.4-, 2.8- and 3.6 meter articulating arms. The 1.8 meter arm provides a point accuracy of ± 0.02 mm anywhere within the measuring envelope when used with a PowerProbe™.

The 3000i™ also features 360-degree rotation of the arms principal axes; a unique clamping system requiring no tools; a compact and lightweight design; intelligent quick-change probes that are changeable on-the-fly without tools or re-calibration; carbon graphite arms that are dimensionally stable regardless of temperature; a variety of lengths and the ability to be mounted horizontally, vertically or upside down without recalibration.

The system is based upon the positioning of conical seats installed in a concrete floor or an optional steel plate. The conical seats are permanently flush mounted and valued by a laser tracker. The system software then utilizes patented mathematical algorithms to recognize probed locations in order to automatically perform a reference into the grid coordinate system. This negates the need to input positional X, Y, and Z data while referencing or relocating.
